You’re bored with your hair.
It’s been the same way for months or years now.

It doesn’t matter if your hair is short or long or curly or straight.
I’ve got you!

1. Get a sidecut
A sidecut or undercut is when you shave only half of your hair.
It doesn’t matter if you have short hair or long hair or if your hair is curly or straight.
This is a look anyone can pull off. And it looks super badass.
I have a friend who has a side cut and I remember not being able to move my eyes away.
It’s super edgy and attractive.
You can even color the rest of the hair – and it will look doubly edgy!
2. Dye your hair a bright color
If you’re looking for some funky hair colors for short hair, here are some options.
But instead of coloring your hair a regular and natural hair color like brown, blonde or red, go for something unique like coloring your hair turquoise.
Or even purple!
Nowadays all the kids are coloring their hair – it’s so much fun!
Color outside the lines.
If coloring your whole hair is out of the question because you have to go to work tomorrow, get streaks done.
You can also use hair chalk if you want something that washes off quickly.
If you have dark curly hair, you can get just the tips lightened to add some contrast and color depth to your curls.
If you want to do something totally out of the box, consider going lighter like dying your hair a rare shade of platinum blonde!
3. Get Bubble Braids
What are bubble braids?
Bubble braids or bubble ponytails are ponytails that are tied with hair ties in gaps and the space between the hair ties resembles big bubbles. This is an alternative to actually braiding hair.
Here’s a nice tutorial on how to do a bubble braid from scratch.
If you want to spice it up a bit, you can do multiple bubble braids and have them go in all directions.
This is a fun hairstyle or a convenient hairstyle to wear if you don’t want to waste a lot of time actually braiding your hair.
4. Curl/Straighten your hair
The idea is to do something out of the box.
If you’ve had curly hair all of your life, straighten it. It’s good to go for a change once in a while.
Having curly hair all my life, I always wondered what straight hair would be like. I maintained my straight hair for a year, I loved the new look!
If you have straight hair, get a perm – do something different!
You can also color it a new color if you want to do something totally rad and go to work with a completely new hairdo!
5. Get a big chop
If you have very long hair, you can consider a pixie cut if you’re daring!
If you don’t want to cut your hair so short, you can get a bob cut that’s chin level.
Now, if you have curly hair, apart from cutting your hair short, you can also change your parting.
A big chop makes a huge difference because you might have been wearing your hair long in one hairstyle for a long time – this will help you look radically different!
6. Get bangs or a fringe
Okay, you want a whole new look but nothing that will jeopardize your career or your education.
I hear you.
In that case, go for something that’s unique, that will add depth and character to your face – get bangs or a fringe.
I have curly hair and I was a huge fan of bangs in college.
Even when I straightened my hair, I got bangs because I loved the concept of covering my forehead with hair. It just felt cute.
You can get bangs whether you have curly hair or straight hair – just make sure you get it done at a salon and they cut off a little at a time – too much and it could become too short!
7. Get a hair tattoo
Hair tattoos are non-invasive.
If you want something super trendy and artsy and don’t want anything permanent but want to look edgy and cool, then this is your best bet.
Hair tattoos look good on both men and women and are completely safe.
Your head is shaved in a design of your choosing.
This is one of the best impulsive things to do to your hair.
8. Try a fishtail braid
If you have long straight or wavy hair, this is right up your alley.
Try a different type of braid that looks super cool and unique. This isn’t something many people do, so it will definitely make a few heads turn.
Here’s a fun tutorial on how to do a fishtail braid.
9. Get braids or twists
Braids can be done on straight, curly, or kinky hair.
And depending on your hair texture, you can decide what size of braids or twists you want to get.
The benefits of having braids are:
- It stretches your hair
- It’s low-maintenance – you don’t have to brush it
- There are no tangling issues so your hair won’t get frizzy and matted
- Braids and twists are brilliant for transitioning hair (if you are transitioning to natural hair from chemically treated hair and need a hairstyle that will be uniform)
Braids are fun and you can even add fake hair to braids to make them more colorful and bold. It’s a nice change I feel!
10. Shave your head
Is this list not daring or bold enough for you?
Then the last option is to shave your head.
If you’re tired of the maintenance that goes with your hair, this is a wonderful option.
There is nothing wrong with shaving your head and you will be sporting a new look.
Check out Celine Bernaerts who is one of my favorite Instagram Influencers who sports a bald look.
11. Get a mix of the above
Now, if you want to do something super unique, you can mix a couple of the above hairstyles.
This is one of the most impulsive things to do to your hair!
For instance, you can:
- Get a sidecut or undercut where you shave half of your hair
- A hair tattoo on the side of the undercut
- Color the remaining hair a bold color
And it will look a little something like this:
Or you can color your hair and wait a week before you braid your hair or get twists done.
This is ultra awesome and your hair is going to look so beautiful.
Or you can get a mohawk and then dye it two colors like this:
Or another option can be a sidecut and then you can have dreads for the rest of your hair.
I hope this post gave you some great ideas for impulsive things to do to your hair!
None of these hairstyles are permanent – because hair grows.
You can always grow out a bad haircut, but if you don’t have experience cutting, styling, or coloring hair, please go to a professional.
You will be in good hands!
