1. French braids
French braids are classy, beautiful, and very practical.
If you have long straight or wavy hair constantly getting in the way, then a french braid may be the answer to your problem.
Think Lara Croft from Tomb Raider.
You can check out this tutorial to see how to do a classic french braid.
To do a French braid, you will need to start with clean, dry hair that is free of tangles.
- Start by dividing your hair into three equal sections. Hold the sections in your left hand, with the left section closest to your head and the right section farthest away.
- Take the right section and cross it over the middle section, adding a small piece of hair from the right side of your head to the right section as you go.
- Next, take the left section and cross it over the new middle section, adding a small piece of hair from the left side of your head to the left section as you go.
- Continue crossing the outer sections over the middle section, adding small pieces of hair from the sides of your head as you go. As you work, be sure to keep the braid tight and close to your scalp.
- When you reach the nape of your neck, you can either continue braiding the rest of your hair in a traditional braid or secure the braid with a hair tie or clip.
It may take a bit of practice to get the hang of French braiding, but with a little patience, you’ll be able to master it in no time!
2. Top knot
This is a hairstyle that I genuinely love because I have thick, curly hair and I don’t like any of it hitting my face or scratching my neck.
This is a cute camping hairstyle for curly girls and girls with straight hair.
Here’s how to do it:
- Gather your hair into a ponytail at the top of your head. You can place the ponytail wherever you like, depending on the look you want to achieve.
- Tie your hair into a bun using a hair tie or elastic. You can also use bobby pins to secure the bun in place.
- If you have any stray hairs or flyaways, you can use a bit of hair gel to smooth them down.
That’s it!
With just a few simple steps, you’ll have a stylish and practical top knot that will keep your hair off your face and neck while you’re camping or enjoying any other outdoor activities.
3. Space buns
Space buns look good on most people and they’re super cute!
It can be done with curly or straight hair. You don’t need very long hair either to do space buns – anything beyond shoulder-length will work.
Space buns are a fun and playful hairstyle that will keep your hair off your face and neck. Here’s how to do them:
- Make sure your hair is free of tangles and knots – otherwise it’s going to look lumpy.
- Divide your hair into two equal sections. You can do this by separating your hair down the middle, or by creating a part on one side of your head and separating the hair into two sections.
- Tie each section of hair into a bun at the top of your head, using a hair tie or elastic. You can use bobby pins to secure the buns in place if your hair is too short or curly.
- If you have any stray hairs or flyaways, you can use a bit of hair gel to smooth them down.
That’s it!
With just a few simple steps, you’ll have a fun and playful space bun hairstyle that will keep your hair off your face and neck while you’re camping or enjoying any other outdoor activities.
This is such a cute camping hairstyle.
4. Cornrows
Cornrows and twists are a very good and practical hairstyle for women with kinky hair.
This is not an easy hairstyle, but I’ve included it in the list because I know there are a lot of women with kinky curly hair that want something more practical.
They’re a low-maintenance hairstyle, especially for camping and trekking because you don’t need to spend a lot of time styling your hair on a regular basis.
You can get cornrows or twists before your camping trip and leave it till you get back – there is almost zero maintenance.
You may have to get it done in a salon – this is not something you can do by yourself unless you have a lot of experience.
5. Low ponytail
This is by far one of the easiest hairstyles to do.
And it is versatile.
Whether you have straight hair, wavy hair, curly hair, or kinky hair, you can simply tie a low ponytail – this is a low-maintenance hairstyle and you can keep redoing it if it comes undone.
It keeps your hair out of your face and off your neck, and it’s easy to do. Simply gather your hair into a ponytail at the nape of your neck and secure it with a hair tie.
6. Ponytail braid
Now if a ponytail is too loose and messy for you, then simply braid your hair after tying it into a ponytail.
This is by far one of the most effective and practical hairstyles for women who want to do any activity that involves a lot of moving and hustling.
So, whether you’re going camping, are lifting weights or just want to run, then this is perfect.
To create a ponytail braid, gather your hair into a ponytail and braid it as you normally would. Then, secure the braid with a hair tie or clip.
That’s it!
7. Dutch braids
I’ve seen this hairstyle in every movie where girls go camping and I never knew they were called dutch braids – I always assumed they were some sort of fancy pigtails.
These are very similar to french braids, but dutch braids go on either side of the head.
These are very comfortable to wear and because your hair is tied back, it doesn’t interfere with your activities – so you can climb, walk, run and do all other camping activities without your hair interfering.
This hairstyle can be done on curly and straight hair – it works on both.
Here is a simple video on how to dutch braid your own hair.
8. Just use a simple headband
A headband is a great way to keep your hair off your face and neck while adding a touch of style to your camping outfit.
Simply choose a headband that matches your outfit and wear it around your head.
You can then tie your hair in a ponytail or braid it if it’s long.
If it’s short, you can wear your hair as is.
9. Tie your hair back with a simple bandana
You can use any of the above hairstyles and then make sure it’s all secure by using a bandana.
A bandana is great because it will absorb all the sweat from your forehead and also make sure no flyaways or stray hair comes into your face while you are camping or doing other outdoor activities.
It’s also a great solution if you have bangs and you just want to keep your hair from falling into your face.
10. Get a nice short hairstyle
Honestly, if you are an extremely outdoors person and want your head free and light, consider getting short hair.
I felt so much more active and free when I had short hair.
Short hair is good for curly hair and straight hair.
You can even get a buzz cut.
I would recommend getting something cute like a pixie cut or a bob cut if you want to look stylish with short hair.
11. French braided bun
You can do 2 braids on either side of your head and then braid your hair into a bun.
This is a hairstyle that will look good on anybody and once you get the hang of braiding your hair, you can easily do this within 5 minutes.
See this tutorial to learn how to french braid your hair into a bun.
